Coming Up With A Plan To Fight Memory Loss

Memory loss, while a nuisance at times, is not as despairing as portrayed. There are many effective strategies that can be used to maintain and improve memory. Be patient and willing to make efforts to train your memory and you will solve your memory loss problem.

A good approach to studying is to separate the categories you want to master into related groups. This is found to be much better than trying to learn things in a random, haphazard order. Studying in this manner increases the chance that your memory can access the information when you need it.

Mnemonic devices can be a powerful strategy to use when you want to remember something important. This strategy works by creating an association between a new piece of information and something you already know. You can use jokes, songs, rhymes and such to create mnemonic devices. This is an amusing method of improving your memory. It can also make studying much more fun.

Exercising can prevent memory loss. Exercising increases blood flow to your brain, which preserves cognitive function. Memory is one of the main functions of the brain and a fit body and mind is conducive to greater memory retention. Exercise has the added advantage of lowering your risk of diseases, like diabetes, which impair memory as a secondary effect.

Invest in some sticky pads if you are forgetful! The notes can then be placed with your designated spot for your keys, phone or computer. These little reminders can help make sure you don’t forget anything important.

Visualization techniques are a great tool to improve memory. If you are studying information from a textbook, photographs and charts can be great visual cue to help in committing the information to memory. You may even want to make your own graphs and charts to aid you in this memory process.

When you are are studying, have your material laid out in an organized, outlined form. When you organize this material into related sections, it will be easier to remember it. Your outline does not have to be extensive; a basic grouping is fine.

You must drink water every day. As your brain is comprised mainly of water, dehydration will cause fatigue and decrease the sharpness of your brain functions. You may have trouble remembering things and difficulty retaining new information. Aim to drink somewhere around 8 to 10 cups of water each day.

Regular physical exercise also improves your brain’s function, and extends to your ability to remember. Regular moderate exercise is good for body, mind and spirit and will help you keep your memory functioning properly. As you exercise, your brain will receive more blood and more oxygen.

Practicing deep breathing several times a day can help your memory. Every hour, you should breathe deeply three times through your nose. This helps your body de-stress, and delivers oxygen to the brain. The extra oxygen fuels your brain, keeping it sharp and improving your ability to remember and recall information.

Repeat new information out loud. When you learn something new, such as a name, say it out loud. By saying and listening to the information you wish to retain, you will be more likely to remember it in the long term. Find a way to sneak your repeat of the information into casual conversation, it does not need to be obvious you are practicing a memory trick.

It eventually happens to everyone. Find the tips that you need and apply them so that you can life with your memory loss.
