Dealing with your panic attacks is a difficult road. Unfortunately the items that can cause the attack to occur vary from person to person so each set of triggers is individual to you. This fact makes it difficult to find a technique that will work for you.
If you start to experience a panic attack, put on some relaxing music. Choose soothing music, and place your focus on the beat or lyrics. Keeping your mind on the music, rather than your feelings of anxiety, will allow your body to feel relaxed and let go of the panic.
When feelings of panic begins to creep into your body, find a distraction as soon as possible. Look at or examine something in the room, say a mantra or engage your mind with a puzzle or brainteaser. Find a way to think about anything other than the sensation of panic. This will calm you down and prevent the attack.
Ironically, it is often the fear of a panic attack that causes the panic attack to occur. Try not to dwell on your symptoms and feelings, and how you will handle an attack. These thoughts oftentimes will bring on a panic attack. As an example, what do you think about if I ask you to think about something other than a purple cow? Of course, you cannot help but think about a purple cow and the same is true for over thinking your anxiety issues.
You have to have a handle on your emotional well being if stopping panic attacks from occurring is your main goal. Many people will suffer a panic attack when their emotions escalate. When you are overly bothered by something, you need to share your emotions with someone as soon as you can, in the calmest way possible.
When you are having a panic attack, it is important that you not let the symptoms overwhelm you. Instead of fighting the attack, you should just let it run its course. Try to envision the sensations as flowing over and around you instead of running through you. Above all, make sure you keep your breathing under control. Try to stay calm and take long, slow, deep breaths. With a little time, your excitement level will dissipate and your body will relax.
Isolating yourself will only exacerbate the feelings that lead to panic attacks. Surrounding yourself with a support system can really help you to be successful, overcoming your panic attacks. There is nothing like the comfort of a good friend.
Different people suffer from panic attacks for different reasons. If you join a support group, you can get info from other panic attack sufferers, and apply their solutions to your own panic attacks.
If you go through panic attacks, it is important that you get the proper amount of sleep. Not only can you not getting enough sleep lead to more attacks happening, if you are over-tired you are less able to cope emotionally with them when they do. Allow yourself to get a full eight hours of sleep nightly.
If you are having trouble with panic attacks, try to share your issues with a friend, don’t shut them out. You want to surround yourself with people who are positive and uplifting to help support you through difficult times. Communicate with your friends and family often.
