The wisdom teeth are the ones located on each side of the upper and lower jaw, the third and last molar to be exact. They come out last and usually become visible around the late teens or
early twenties. They cause pain when they erupt partially or become crooked, because of the overcrowding that occurs. The problem is you cannot stop it from coming out. So, when it does, here are tips on how to deal with the pain.
The gargling and rinsing of the mouth with a sip of brandy can effectively alleviate the pain associated with wisdom toothaches. There is another way to use brandy, through saturating a cotton ball with brandy and applying the cotton ball on the affected tooth. If you do not have brandy, whiskey can be a useful alternative too.
2. Ice cubes
Take some ice cubes and place them in a clean towel or a ziploc bag to create an ice pack. An ice pack can help relieve swelling and pain by making the area numb. Just apply the ice pack on the
source of the pain from the outside.
3. Massage with fingers
Gently massage the aching gum surrounding the painful wisdom tooth, with the index finger and the thumb. It will help calm the nerves, that is causing the pain. Do not put so much pressure as
it can lead to bleeding gums.
Use a potent mouthwash, like peppermint, to quickly give relief from the pain. It can also help
kill the bacteria around the mouth. Swish it around the mouth for several seconds before
spitting it out. Repeat as needed.
Echinacea is effective in the relief of pain, especially that of a wisdom tooth pain. This remedy would require fresh roots of Echinacea. Just place the root over the affected tooth and bite down on it. It can be hard to find the fresh Echinacea root, so the tea form is also an ideal alternative. Drink the tea and place the tea bag directly over the tooth.
Oregano contains carvacrol and thymol, which are responsible for its antiseptic properties. The oil form of oregano is very effective in alleviating the pain caused by wisdom tooth. It only requires a very small amount to be used as it is very powerful. A drop of oregano, diluted in 1 teaspoon olive oil takes effect by massaging this mixture on the gums.
7. Chewing gum
Take some sugar-free gum and chew it throughout the day. It works by increasing blood circulation, thereby relieving pain and also the pressure in the ears. These are only remedies that give temporary relief. It is very important that an appointment be set in a kids dentist for further assessment and intervention.
