People nowadays are becoming a lot more anxious. This is because the world is rapidly evolving and life is just becoming harder and harder. You may not be able to set sail on a relaxing cruise, but most people get no less than one day off weekly. During your day off you shouldn’t stay with what you do during the week. Instead, do something that relaxes you, like taking a hike.
Adjust your brain chemistry by exercising. Decreased serotonin levels may prompt anxiety attacks, but physical exertion can remedy them. Brisk walks with your dog, gym workouts and even gardening can all promote brain production of both dopamine and serotonin, which are natural relaxants. In addition to decreasing your anxiety, it also lifts depression.
A lot of people realize how important exercise is for lowering anxiety, but are unaware of which exercises are best suited for that. If you’re not sure where to begin, walking, running and jogging are easy forms of exercise that need minimal equipment.
Keeping a diary or journal can help you relax and calm down before going to sleep. By spending time writing in a journal you allow yourself to release the anxieties of the day, thus making it easier to fall asleep. You can right every night or just when you feel you need it.
Eat a high carbohydrate snacks. Carbs have a lot of serotonin and can help you feel better. Don’t eat too much or eat all the time, just when your anxiety is growing to a point that you can’t handle. It does work well for some folks.
Rethink your diet. For example, processed foods and caffeinated products feed feelings of anxiety. If you are eating too many of these things, you may have higher anxiety. Add healthier aliments to your diet, such as fruits, vegetables, dairies, berries and nuts for instance. Make these foods a staple in your diet and reduce or stop taking in so much processed food.
Try to rub your hands for about 20 seconds and then placing them on your eyes to help you relax. Many people use these techniques every day to calm themselves. Give it a try the next time you start to feel anxious.
Do all you can to stay away from negative people, because they only increase the anxiety that afflicts you during the day. Stick with friends known for their positivity so that you will have an appropriate perspective on life and on your own concerns.
