You can reduce your chance of developing diabetes by ensuring you eat a high-fiber diet. Consuming processed and overly refined foods with a high glycemic index increases your risk of developing diabetes; instead, eat foods that are made with whole grains. Eating whole grains more often has been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes.

Fast-acting insulin should be taken up to 15 minutes before you eat, unless your doctor has ordered differently. This insulin helps your blood sugar stay at a proper level when it is used properly. But it needs to be dosed and timed out properly.
