By being prepared for problems you may encounter, you can reduce your exposure to stressful situations. Keep an extra key stored outside somewhere, a few cherries or strawberries for snacks at work, and a babysitter on call in case something goes wrong. If you can pre-plan for the worst case, it is easier to handle the situation.
Meditation can provide great relief from the stress in your life. Meditation is an effective way to relax and rid yourself of anxiety. To meditate, you can just sit on your own in a quiet place for a quarter hour to half an hour, or you could listen to some peaceful music in a restful area.
Honesty is always the best policy. It has been proven that even the smallest lie can lead to a great deal of guilt and increase stress in any relationship.
Devise a plan for your day, and do your best to stick with it. If your schedule is hectic and random, it can be a very stressful thing. A schedule makes your day seem more manageable and helps you to avoid stressful last minute emergencies.
If stress is overwhelming you, try altering your immediate surroundings. Perhaps visiting a relative in their home causes you stress. Arrange a more neutral meeting instead, like a trip to a restaurant or some sort of fun activity. If you alter the environment, you can remove potential sources of stress.
Participating in hobbies are wonderful ways to relieve stress. Creating something allows your mind to express itself and to stop focusing on stressful matters.
Looking at soothing images can help keep stress levels under control. Simple images such as mountains or gardens can put your mind in a state of tranquility. If you can’t find an appropriate visual aid, simply shut your eyes, and imagine a serene setting. You will feel your body relax as you use these visualization techniques.
There are activities that seem innocuous enough; however, they contribute greatly to stress levels. Video games might be one way for you to unwind, but if you play them for many hours a day and neglect your other responsibilities, you are actually increasing your stress. You could be losing out on time for sleep, or time to eat a healthy meal.
Think about your stress, and how you deal with it. There is probably a better way to do things. Try keeping a stress journal for a few weeks. Remember and evaluate your response to each stressful event and ask yourself if you handled it in an effective, healthy manner. If the response was not healthy, you might want to try implementing a new coping strategy or two.
Getting stress to the point where it doesn’t affect you that much, takes a lot of preparation and a lot of soul-searching. It’s possible, if you keep in mind that you control your thoughts and that stress is only a visitor. Don’t let stress stay and you’ll be a happier person very soon.
