Smiling more can beat stress and is often forgotten about. The muscles you use when you smile trigger your limbic system, and this is part of the emotional area of your brain. When your limbic system is activated by smiling, you benefit from a calming reaction that reduces your level of stress.

Your coping mechanisms need to be real efforts that you perform, such as positive reaffirmations that you remind yourself of when you are feeling too stressed. If you can have positive thoughts, then you will have another outlook on things; your perception of things will be much different.

To keep anxiety and stress at a minimum, keep yourself and your belongings as organized as you can. Many people are not very organized, and that can cause a lot of frustration and anxiety. Getting your life in order and organizing your efforts goes a long way to reducing stress.

Try visual imaging techniques to lower the stress in your life. Many studies have shown that utilizing calming visual imagery can significantly reduce stress levels. Even if you do not have access to pictures, just imagining a sunny beach where you can lay back and listen to the gentle sounds of waves crashing ashore while you soak up the sunshine or the invigorating and soothing feel of a steamy bath can make a huge difference is successfully envisioning stress leaving your body. When you take those few minutes to imagine peaceful scenes to help you relax, you will undoubtedly feel less stressed out.

Apply these tips to your life to lower your stress levels and feel happier. Stress affects both your mental and physical health. It is therefore important to utilize techniques that will reduce stress whenever you feel it. You have the power to lower your stress levels and live a calmer life.
