Banish the words “depressed” and “depression”. Depression is a very serious affliction, but if you use those words, they can make you feel worse. The next time you feel down, think of your condition as “the blues” or “a low mood.” Improving your mood will make your depression symptoms better.

If you are living with depression, avoid food and beverages that have artificial sweeteners in them, such as diet soda. Artificial sweeteners can block serotonin production and make headaches and insomnia more likely, which are two problems that depression causes even without these sweeteners. Cutting down artificial sweeteners can help to cut down on your insomnia and headaches.

To be more happy, try to avoid sugary foods. This includes ones deemed to be good for you like honey or fruit juice. These sugars can get into your bloodstream quicker than complex carbohydrates like whole grains. The quick jolt of sugar to the bloodstream can cause a burst of energy, quickly followed by a trough of depression and fatigue.

A great tip for battling depression is to fix any and all your personal problems. Worries that are always on your mind, no matter how small they seem, can contribute to ongoing depression. Fix as many problems as you can, just take the time for doing it.

Find a friend or sibling to talk to, or even play a video games with. Often being around people can relieve depression.

Try dancing when you are feeling down. Turning up some fun music will help to get you dancing. How many people are still sad when they dance to hip hop? Of course, not many! Pick some music that makes you happy and gets your feet moving. This will surely cheer you up!
